Tesla’s FSD Price Cut: The Road to Autonomy Just Got More Affordable

In a strategic move to increase adoption, Tesla has announced a significant price reduction for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) package.

The cost of the advanced driver assistance system has been cut by half, now available at $99 per month, down from the previous $199 monthly fee.

Additionally, Tesla has lowered the outright purchase price of the FSD package to $8,000 from the previous $12,000.

This price adjustment comes as part of Tesla’s broader initiative to simplify its FSD offerings. The company has also phased out the “Enhanced Autopilot” package, which served as an intermediary option between the basic Autopilot features and the full suite of FSD capabilities.

Customers who had previously purchased Enhanced Autopilot are now eligible to upgrade to the complete FSD package for an additional $2,000.

The reduction in price marks a departure from Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s earlier statements, where he suggested that the cost of FSD would only increase as the software approached full self-driving capability with regulatory approval.

Despite the name, the FSD system does not render Tesla vehicles fully autonomous; drivers are still required to remain attentive and ready to take control at any time.

Tesla Full Self Driving (Supervised) in action

Tesla’s decision to lower the FSD price is seen as an effort to boost its uptake among Tesla owners, providing more data to improve the system and potentially paving the way for future advancements in autonomous driving technology.

The move has been met with mixed reactions, as it contrasts with Musk’s previous assertions about the increasing value of FSD. Nonetheless, this new pricing strategy could make Tesla’s advanced driver assistance features more accessible to a broader range of customers, potentially accelerating the company’s progress towards its autonomous driving goals.

This revised version now includes the option for customers to purchase the FSD package outright for $8,000, offering a comprehensive overview of Tesla’s updated FSD pricing strategy.
