The Zzina Awards, hosted by Galaxy FM on February 8, 2024, turned into a scene of chaos and violence when the rival fans of dancehall artists Alien Skin and Fik Gaza clashed at the IUEA Auditorium in Kansanga.
The fight broke out when Fik Gaza was performing his hit song Sanyu, which has been a popular anthem in bars and entertainment spots in and around Kampala.
The fans of Alien Skin, who is Fik Gaza’s longtime nemesis, approached the stage where Fik Gaza was singing and started throwing bottles and insults at him.
Fik Gaza’s fans retaliated by defending their star and attacking Alien Skin’s fans. The situation escalated into a fistfight that involved chairs, sticks, and stones.
The bodyguards and security personnel at the venue intervened and stopped the brawl before it resulted in any serious injuries.
The Zzina Awards were meant to celebrate the best performers of 2023 in the Ugandan music industry. Alien Skin, who is the leader of the Fangone Forest crew, scooped five awards, including Best Dancehall Artist, Best Dancehall Song Party, Best Song of the Year Party, Dancehall Artist, and Artist of the Year.
Fik Gaza managed to get only one award, which was Best Breakthrough Artist of the year.
