Maulana, one half of the comedy duo Maulana and Reign, has finally been released from prison after paying 10 million shillings to his ex-wife for child support and their wellbeing for a year.
Maulana, whose real name is Maulana Kasozi, was remanded to Luzira Maximum Security Prison on February 4, 2024, after being accused of child neglect by his ex-wife, Shubira Betty Nalujja, with whom he has three children.
Shubira had dragged Maulana to court, claiming that he had abandoned his parental responsibilities and failed to provide for their children’s basic needs, such as food, clothing, education, and medical care.
However, after spending 2 days behind bars, Maulana agreed to settle the matter out of court and pay 10 million shillings to Nalubega as a lump sum for the children’s upkeep and welfare for a year.
He was released from prison on February 7, 2024.
