WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Facebook, is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to have two different accounts on the same device. The feature, which is currently only available for Android users, will enable users to switch between their work and personal accounts without logging out or carrying two phones.

According to the WhatsApp blog, the multiple account feature will offer all the usual features and capabilities for each account, such as chat, voice and video calls, status updates, and media sharing. Users will also be able to customize their profiles by setting unique pictures, about fields, notification settings, and privacy settings for each account.

To set up a second account on WhatsApp, users will need to have a separate phone number or a device that takes multiple SIM cards or eSIM. Users can then open their WhatsApp settings, tap on the arrow next to their name, and tap “Add account”. Users will then need to follow the steps to register their second account with a 6-digit verification code.

Once both accounts are registered, users can easily switch between them on the same device by tapping on the switch accounts icon on the top right corner of the app. Users can see activity on their idle accounts through push notifications and respond to them by switching accounts. Users can also remove an account from their device at any time without deleting the account.

WhatsApp said that the multiple account feature is aimed at making communication more convenient and flexible for its users, especially those who use WhatsApp for both personal and professional purposes. The feature is also expected to enhance the security and privacy of users’ messages, as they will not have to share their phone numbers with different contacts or groups.

The multiple account feature is currently being tested by a limited number of beta users and will be gradually rolled out to all Android users in the coming weeks. WhatsApp has not announced any plans to bring the feature to iOS users yet. Users are advised to only use the official WhatsApp app and not download any imitations or fake versions as a way of getting more accounts on their phone.
