Kawempe North MP Muhammad Segirinya, who is suffering from skin cancer and other health complications, has received a lifeline from his party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.

The NUP president has pledged to pay all his medical bills, which had accumulated to 80 million shillings.

Segirinya, who is currently receiving treatment at Amsterdam University Medical Center in Netherlands, had earlier appealed to well-wishers for help, claiming that he had been abandoned by Parliament.

However, this claim was refuted by Parliament and the LoP’s office, who said that Segirinya had not followed the due procedure for obtaining medical support from Parliament.

In a video message, Segirinya thanked Bobi Wine and NUP for coming to his rescue. He also appreciated the LoP Mathias Mpuuga, NUP secretary general Lewis Lubongoya, members of NUP Diaspora and fellow MPs who helped him to secure the much-needed funds.

“My voters, I want to inform you that the matter which has been haunting me has been sorted. My president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu will meet all medical bills,” a visibly weak Segirinya said in the video.

Segirinya said he was going for a bone-marrow surgical operation, followed by another operation to extract viruses from his lungs. He said he hoped to be in hospital for two months, according to the doctors’ assurance.

Segirinya also dismissed the fears that he may end up cleaning hospital rooms and bedsheets to clear the bills. He said he was confident that he would recover and return to serve his constituents.
