A musical showdown is looming between two of Uganda’s top female artists, Cindy Sanyu and Sheebah Karungi. The two singers have booked the same venue, Kololo Independence Grounds, for their concerts slated for 15th September 2023.
Cindy Sanyu, who is the president of Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), announced her concert on her social media platforms on Monday.
She said she will be staging a mega show dubbed “The King Herself Concert” to celebrate her music career and achievements.
Sheebah Karungi, who is the vice president of Uganda National Music Federation (UNMF), had earlier announced her concert on the same date and venue. She said she will be hosting a “Yolo Festival” to showcase her talent and entertain her fans.
The two artists have been rivals for a long time, exchanging words and dissing each other in their songs. They have also been compared by their fans and the media on who is more talented, hardworking and successful.
Sheebah Karungi has not commented on Cindy’s concert announcement or the clash of dates and venues. She has been busy promoting her festival and releasing new songs. She has also been vocal about supporting other female artists in the industry.
It remains to be seen how the two concerts will play out and who will attract more fans and attention.
Some observers have suggested that the clash is a publicity stunt to create hype and buzz for both shows.
Others have urged the artists to resolve their differences and work together for the benefit of the music industry.
