Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and owner of Twitter, has announced the creation of a new artificial intelligence company called X.AI. The company’s mission is to “understand the true nature of the universe”, according to its official website.

X.AI was incorporated in Nevada last month, with Musk as its director and Jared Birchall, the director of Musk’s family office, as its secretary. The company has not revealed any details about its products or services, but Musk has reportedly purchased thousands of graphic processing units (GPUs) to power an upcoming generative AI product.

Musk is known for his ambitious and visionary projects, such as colonizing Mars, building a hyperloop, and creating a brain-computer interface. He is also a vocal critic of the potential dangers of artificial intelligence and has called for more regulation and oversight of the technology.

He co-founded OpenAI, a research organization dedicated to creating safe and beneficial AI, in 2015, but left the board in 2018 due to disagreements over its direction.

Musk has said that he will reveal more information about X.AI on Friday, during an interview on Twitter Spaces. He has also hinted that the company will work closely with his other ventures, such as X Corp., Tesla, and SpaceX, to advance its goals.

X.AI is expected to face competition from other AI companies and organizations, such as Microsoft-backed OpenAI, Google’s DeepMind, and Facebook’s AI Research. The AI field has seen rapid progress and innovation in recent years, with breakthroughs such as GPT-4, a powerful natural language processing system that can generate coherent and diverse texts on any topic.
