Over 148 Arrests and 130 Phones Stolen as The Uganda Martyrs Day Celebration Ends

The Uganda Martyrs Day celebration held at Namugongo shrines in Wakiso district concluded on a positive note, with security agencies commending the efforts of personnel and stakeholders in ensuring a peaceful and secure event.

The event attracted over three million participants, including foreign Christian delegations from countries such as the USA, Europe, Brazil, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, and South Sudan.

According to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the celebration went smoothly, with only 190 reported incidents.

The majority of these cases involved the theft of mobile phones, totaling 130 cases, highlighting the need for vigilance in crowded gatherings. Additionally, 62 general cases were recorded, reflecting a relatively low level of crime during the event.

As a result of these incidents, 148 individuals were arrested, including 137 males, 3 females, and 8 male juveniles. The authorities are taking appropriate measures to address these offenses and ensure justice is served.

In a separate matter, the police are actively working to transport 22 stranded pilgrims from the Catholic site to their respective homes, demonstrating their commitment to the welfare and safety of all attendees.

Overall, despite the challenges posed by a large crowd, the Uganda Martyrs Day celebration concluded successfully with security measures in place to address criminal activities and ensure the well-being of participants.

The joint efforts of security personnel and stakeholders played a vital role in fostering a peaceful and secure environment throughout the event.
