Artists complained in a letter dated April 12, 2022, about the exploitative behavior of telecom firms, claiming that they only receive a pitiful Shs 12.6 or 18% of the profits from their works, which is not enough to cover the costs incurred in producing them.

In response to the petition requesting action on the aforementioned grievances, Norbert Mao scheduled a meeting with the NCF artist body to discuss the future of the music business.

Norbert Mao made a commitment to support the Act's amendment to enable artists to earn more money during the meeting that took place on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

Additionally, it was requested that he take into account the significance of preserving regional culture.

A meeting with artists was held this Wednesday, August 31, 2022, by Hon. Norbert Mao, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

The National Culture Forum-NCF petitioned for the CRBT revenue to be split among artists, which they argued was exploitative, and for the Copyright Act to be amended. This led to the meeting.

Furthermore, without payment, their efforts are used to make gadgets.

The Act will be amended with the intention of putting more money in the hands of artists, and the Minister whose portfolio the Copyright legislation falls under has pledged support for the proposal.

His dedication is in keeping with a 2020 presidential decree on the same subject.

He also emphasized the significance of controlling the entry of foreign musicians into Uganda in order to save indigenous cultures.

On September 14, 2022, he promised to gather the Ministries of Finance and Gender, as well as the pertinent organizations, for a workshop on the CRBTs, the private copy levy, and other copyright-related concerns. This is one method for bringing about the necessary changes.
